In The NPD Group's April 2022 report for video game spending in the US, the Nintendo Switch was confirmed as the top-selling console. However, it's achieved a far bigger milestone with its lifetime unit sales surpassing that of the PS4. This makes it the fourth highest unit-selling console in the region's history along with the sixth highest unit-selling video game hardware overall.

The NPD has released its April 2022 report covering video game hardware, software, and accessory sales in the US. According to the NPD, total videogame industry spending declined 8% year-over-year to $4.3 billion. Year-to-date, spending on hardware, content, and accessories also declined by 8% to $18.3 billion yoy. For the month of April, hardware spending increased 16% yoy to $343 million thanks to available stock in PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in the US in April 2022 and 2022 year-to-date in terms of units sold, according to figures from The NPD Group. NPD includes the dates for the four week period of April 3 to April 30.
The Xbox Series X|S was the second best-selling console in terms of units sold in April 2022 and 2022 year-to-date. This does mean the PlayStation 5 takes third place in terms of units sold in both April 2022 and 2022 year-to-date.
