If you're looking to play something that looks and feels like the original Crackdown game, for better or for worse, then this is your game. You're still basically a superhero cop that quickly gains the ability to jump the height of buildings via collecting loads of hidden orbs in what is basically a 3D platformer with a dash of open world car theft, only with less personality. It's still fun, I guess, but it does absolutely nothing I'd call new or interesting, and looks embarrassing both visually and gameplay wise when compared to any other AAA open world game...

Where's Our Crackdown 3 Review?

Crackdown 3 is out tomorrow, and reviews are starting to hit online. Ours won't be among them, however, since I haven't had the opportunity to play the game's Wrecking Zone multiplayer on live servers. That's not to say I haven't formed an opinion on what I have played of the campaign mode.
First, the good news: Controlling the Agent is great, and it captures a large part of what made the original game so enjoyable. I've had a lot of fun completing various parkour challenges and collecting the orbs scattered throughout New Providence.

Crackdown started life as something you bought to get a beta for Halo 3. That's not a slight against the original game - it just is. The original game was successful enough (people really, really wanted that Halo 3 beta) to spawn a sequel, albeit under a different developer. Crackdown 3 review - Terry Crews simulator represents a minor miracle

Crackdown 3 is a game in which, as Terry Crews, you punch cars to death.
When they explode, Terry Crews goes up in flames, gets thrown back a few feet, then punches another car out of anger. Later on, Terry Crews becomes so powerful that he can pick cars up and throw them over buildings. Do the cars sometimes have innocent people in them? Shut your mouth. Terry Crews has a city to save.

Nearly five years after its initial reveal, Crackdown 3 is finally ready for primetime.
Crackdown 3, the Xbox One exclusive many nearly gave up on, is just a day away. Crackdown 3 brings the irreverent, open-world collectathon formula the franchise is well known for to a new generation .
The game features a co-op campaign, letting you pick from many agents; each offering different abilities. Then there's multiplayer, Wrecking Zone. The mode's main gimmick is its reliance on Microsoft's servers to offer massive-scale destruction not possible on Xbox hardware.

Review: Crackdown 3

Crackdown is a franchise that's built on a hollow structure. It's unapologetically open-ended, encouraging the player to get distracted by whatever flashes across the screen. Crackdown doesn't funnel anyone toward anything.
This approach prevents Crackdown itself from being anything more than a distraction. There's little of substance, as this series willingly trades weighty and meaningful moments for the short-lived-but-constant euphoria of snagging another orb. It's gaming junk food and that can be perfectly fine as long as no one expects a Michelin-starred meal.
